Claude skills worth installing

A skill is a written set of instructions your AI agent reads when a task calls for it, like a recipe card it pulls out at the right moment. Install a pack and the agent gains a new habit: interview you before building, test before fixing, answer in fewer words.

Most skills are plain text files in a public GitHub project (a repo, short for repository: a folder of files anyone can read and copy). They work in Claude Code, and most also work in Codex, Cursor and other AI coding tools. Searching GitHub turns up thousands of them, many abandoned or copied from each other. This page lists the ones we'd install.

Every pack here was checked by hand on October 28, 2026:

  • Its license lets you use it, and the page says which one.
  • Someone changed it in the last few weeks, so it isn't abandoned.
  • The install commands are copied from the pack's own instructions, and the plugin names match what the pack actually publishes.

We link to each author's own page and never copy their skills here. Everything listed is free. If you've never used an AI coding tool, start with our first guide instead.

The packs

Not sure where to start? Try Matt Pocock's skills: the skills are small and work in Claude Code, Codex and more. Its best-known skill, grill-me, has the agent ask you one question at a time until your plan is clear, even for plans that aren't about code.

Each card shows how many skills the pack has, its license, and the tools it works with. MIT and Apache-2.0 both mean free to use and change, even for paid work.
