Get your computer ready
This is the one boring part. You do it once, and it takes about 10 minutes.
Your AI helper needs a few free tools on your computer before it can build anything, the same way you install an app before you can use it. You'll copy and paste a few lines into a window called the terminal. Every step says exactly what to paste and what you should see.
What you'll set up:
- Terminal: already on your computer. It's a window where you type instructions instead of clicking.
- Git: saves snapshots of your project so you can undo mistakes.
- Python: a programming language your AI helper can use for everyday jobs.
- A Projects folder: one place for everything you build.
Building web pages later? You'll add two more tools (Homebrew and Node) when a project needs them.
Open only the guide for your computer and skip the others:
- On a Mac: Set up a Mac
- On Windows: Set up Windows (written, video coming later)
- On Linux: Set up Linux
If your screen doesn't match the guide exactly, that's normal. Check the "if this goes wrong" boxes on the page before you give up.
