Set up Linux
Updated Sep 18, 2026
You already have a terminal. Install Git and Node with your package manager, then continue the path.
If you are on Ubuntu, Fedora, or Arch, you already passed the hard part. Install Git and a current Node, then skip to GitHub.
Debian / Ubuntu:
Terminal
sudo apt update
sudo apt install git curl
curl -fsSL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_22.x | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt install nodejs
git --version
node --version
Fedora:
Terminal
sudo dnf install git nodejs
Arch:
Terminal
sudo pacman -S git nodejs npm
You want Node 20 or newer. Avoid the ancient nodejs in old Ubuntu repos if node --version says v12.
Next: create a GitHub repo.
