Windows Terminal, Git, and Node. Written out step by step. Video coming later.
You do not need WSL to start. Claude Code, Git, and Node all run on Windows now. WSL is a later option if a guide truly needs Linux.
Step 1: Windows Terminal
Install Windows Terminal from the Microsoft Store, or:
winget install Microsoft.WindowsTerminal
Open it. Use PowerShell. Pin it to the taskbar.
Step 2: Git
winget install Git.Git
Close Terminal and open it again, then:
git --version
If git is still unknown, sign out of Windows and back in so PATH updates. Git for Windows also offers Git Bash. Either Git Bash or PowerShell is fine. Pick one and stay there for the rest of these guides.
Step 3: Node.js
winget install OpenJS.NodeJS.LTS
New terminal window:
node --version
npm --version
You want Node 20 or newer.
Next: create a GitHub repo. WSL can wait.
