Caveman switches the agent to a short, answer-first way of talking. Code and commands stay exact; only the words around them shrink. AI tools measure use in tokens (roughly, pieces of words), so fewer words out means your plan lasts longer.
The pack adds short notes for saving your work, one-line review comments, and a skill that rewrites your agent's instruction files in fewer words.
Before you install
- The big installer at the top of its page (npx @caveman-ai/cli@latest) installs a whole set of extra tools and changes your agent's settings, not only the skills. The boxes here install just the skills.
- The "Other tools" box needs Node.js, a free program many coding tools already install.
- caveman-compress sends the file you shrink to your AI provider.
- The savings numbers come from the author's own tests.
Install it
The commands below are for AI coding tools like Claude Code, which work with files on your computer. They won't do anything typed into a ChatGPT or Claude chat in your browser. Don't have a coding tool yet? Install Claude Code first.
Use the box for the tool you have, and copy its commands. Lines that start with / go in the tool's chat box. Other lines go in Terminal, the app where you type commands to your computer. A plugin is a bundle of skills made for one tool, and a marketplace is the list the tool installs it from.

- cavemanSwitches the agent to short, no-filler replies while keeping code and commands exact. Say "stop caveman" to go back to normal.
- caveman-compressRewrites the instruction file your agent reads at the start of every session (in Claude Code, CLAUDE.md) in fewer words, and keeps a backup.
- caveman-commitWrites the short note that goes with each saved version of your project, saying only what the change is for.
- caveman-reviewReviews a change and reports each problem as one line: where it is, what's wrong, how to fix it.
All 22 skills are listed in the pack's source. Checked by hand; see how we pick packs.
