For this hello page you do not need any. If you added an API already, put keys in Vercel → Project → Settings → Environment Variables, not in the repo. See Env files.

Import the GitHub repo, wait for the build, open the .vercel.app URL. That is shipped.

Before you start:Connect Claude Code to GitHub

Go to vercel.com and sign in with GitHub. Not email. The GitHub login is what lets Vercel see first-app.

Add New → Project → import first-app. Leave the defaults. Framework should show Next.js. Click Deploy.

When it is green, click the screenshot. That URL is real. Send it to your phone. If it loads, you are no longer in a chat window.

Every later git push to main deploys again. Watch the Deployments tab the first time so you believe it.

Build failed on Vercel but worked on localhost

Open the failed deployment log. The last red lines matter. Paste those into Claude Code in the repo:

Vercel failed. Here is the log. Fix the build. Do not disable the error.

Common first-app failures: missing pnpm-lock.yaml if the project uses pnpm, or Node version too old. In Vercel project settings, set Node to 20 or 22.
