Connect Claude Code to GitHub

Updated Sep 18, 2026

Commit the local app, push it, and let the agent run git for you only after you can do it once by hand.

You already cloned the repo. Now snapshot what Claude built.

Look first:

Terminal
git status

You should see Next.js files. You should not see .env. If you do, stop and fix gitignore.

Then:

Terminal
git add .
git commit -m "Scaffold Next.js app with Claude Code"
git push

Refresh the GitHub repo in a browser. The files should be there.

Claude Code can run these commands for you. That is fine after you have done it once. Prompt:

Copy and paste this
Commit the current work with a short message and push to origin. Do not add .env. Show me git status before you commit.

If it asks to create a new repo, say no. You already have one. Creating a second repo is how people lose track of which URL Vercel should use.

Next: deploy to Vercel.
